Iranian First Vice President Es'hagh Jahangiri had a phone conversation with Armenian Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan on Saturday. The two officials discussed matters of bilateral interests including gas and electricity.
In the opening of the dialogue, Iranian First Vice President, wished happiness and prosperity for the nation and government of Armenia, expressing content with the growing bilateral ties, adding that the two neighboring countries could take further steps to develop the current status of cooperation.
The Armenian official also greeted Jahangiri with the same wishes repeating his invitation of Jahangiri to Yerevan.
Abrahamyan also expressed content with the removal of some obstacles on the way to develop energy ties with Iran as two countries are closely tied in bartering gas with electricity.
In line with their existing bilateral relations, Tehran and Yerevan have established growing energy ties over the recent years. Iran has bartered more than 1.5 billion cubic meters of gas with Armenia’s electricity over the past seven years. In 2013, Iran exchanged some 481 million cubic meters of gas with the neighboring country’s electricity, the largest amount of bartering between Iran and Armenia in seven years.
He also expressed optimism that the enhancement of mutual ties between Iran and Armenia would help promote peace in the region and across the globe.
Abrahamyan suggested that Iran, Armenia and Georgia form a trilateral joint to cooperate in field of transit.
